He bought the Col. Webber farm, now owned by George Jennings. He sold a part of the Webber place and purchased the farm owned by Capt. Ware, his first wife’s brother; here he lived till 1838, when he moved into the village, where he spent the remainder of his days. He died Oct. 16, 1858, aged 83. He was married twice, the first time in 1798, to Waitstill Ware; she died July 1, 1812, and, the following December, he married Lydia Field. By his first wife he had two children; I. Julia, born in 1798, and married, in 1820, John L. Wellington, of this town, and moved into western New York. The fruits of this marriage were twelve children, two of whom lost their lives in the Rebellion. Eight of the remainder died with their friends at home, and two are now living; the oldest and the youngest. She died in 1854, and he in 1879. II. Increase Sumner, born Jan. 17, 1800; married Esther Wolcott, Feb. 8, 1824 and moved to Bethel, Vt. Children 1st, Esther Aurora, b. June 21, 1825; m. 1st, Isaachar Williams, who lived but a few weeks. m., 2d, Charles J. Kenrick, and has three children, and now lives in Tunbridge, Vt. 2d, Wm. Wolcott, b. Aug. 23, 1827; m. Eliza Jane Alexander, of Fitzwilliam, and has had seven ch., of whom five are now living. (See Ap.) 8d, Edwin Jennison, b. Oct. 24, 1829; m., first, Oct. 12, 1858, Esther L. Knights, who died in 1864, July 26, leaving two sons, Arthur E. and Elmer, the latter of whom has since died. He subsequently m. Sophia Chase, of Concord, Vt., and has three children by the second marriage. (See Ap.) 4th, Helen Augusta, b. Feb. 11, 1832; m., Mar. 11, 1855, Oscar Mellish and lives in Newton, Mass. 5th, Harriet Eliza, b. July 21, 1834; d. July 30. 6th, Mary Ann, b. Sep. 10, 1836; m. 1857 Wm. Mellish, who fell through the R. R. Bridge at Cold river station, and died from injuries received, Jan. 1868, leaving a widow and three young children. 7th, Julietta, b. Feb. 8, 1840; m. Frederick J. Hubbard. (See Ap.) 8th, Josephine Annette, b. Sep. 80,1847; m. E. P. Hall, May 16, 1872 and went to Victor, Iowa; she d. Dec. 1876. By his second wife, who died in June, 1859, he had three children. III. William, jr., b. Aug. 16, 1813; d. Nov. 1840. He was a young man of fine abilities and highly respected by all who knew him. IV. Mary Jane, b. Jan. 17, 1815; m. George Aldrich--two children. V. Ebenezer, b. Dec. 22, 1816; m. Sarah M. Brown, in 1842. He died in Dec., 1844, leaving one daughter, an only child, who m. Richard W. Musgrove, of Bristol, N.H.
