HOLLAND, ABRAHAM, Dr., was born in Barre, Mass., in 1751, graduated at Dartmouth, studied 
the medical profession, came to this town immediately after completing his studies, and commenced 
practice about 1780, or perhaps a year or two later. He was the third physician that settled in town, it is 
said. He married Abigail Baldwin, from Shrewsbury, Mass., and when he first brought his wife to town 
he boarded with Col. John Bellows. He soon after purchased the farm now owned by Maj. Britton, and 
built that house. He was twice married: his second wife was a widow Fisher. He went to Newfane, Vt., 
and lived several years; but returned in his old age, and lived with his son Nathaniel, and died at the 
advanced age of 96, on Feb. 18, 1847; his wife Abigail died June 13, 1822, aged 73. Ch.
I. Polly, m. William Salisbury, of Derby, Vt., March 9, 1814. Her children were Mary, Harriet, 
Stella, William, and Annie.
II. Nathaniel, b. 1788; m. Keziah Richardson, of Alstead, N.H., May 26, 1819. For several years 
he kept a public house in Boston, after which he returned to Walpole, and kept the house now 
owned by Charles G. Maynard till his declining health caused him to relinquish it. He died April 
25, 1835, aged 47; his wife died in 1878. Ch. 1st, Henry Baldwin, m. Anna Brigham, of St. 
Louis, and they had two ch., Charles and a daughter. 2d, Isabella, m. Hudson E. Bridge, of St. 
Louis, formerly of this town, and had three ch.; she d., and Mr. Bridge m. his first wife’s sister, 
Helen Augusta, and had by her five ch. 3d, Maria, m. Harrison Parker Bridge, also of St. Louis, 
and formerly of Walpole, and had one child. 4th, Charles, never m., and d. young. 5th, Emma, 
never m., d. in her teens. 6th, Ephraim Richardson, is a roving character, and is now in 
California, unm. 7th, Julia Rebecca, m. John W. Beach, of St. Louis; no ch. 8th, Leonard Bisco, 
m. Elnora, dau. of William Mitchell, of this town, and has ten ch. (See Ap.)
III. Ephraim, b. in 1790; m. Nancy, dau. of Rev. Samuel Mead. He went to Keene and kept the 
Phoenix Hotel there when first married, and subsequently removed to Boston and kept a hotel 
on Howard Street known as " Holland’s Coffee House." He at length returned to his native 
town and built the house where his widow now resides, and lived there till his death, which 
occurred April 30, 1859. Ch. 1st. Henry E., b. July 6, 1823. He studied the medical profession, 
graduated at the Medical College in Boston, Mass., and commenced practice in Northfield, 
Mass. When the rebellion broke out he went into the service of the Union as a surgeon, where 
he d., unm., March 28, 1865, aged 41. 2d, Harriet, b. March 18, 1826; m. Thomas N. 
Hastings, of Boston, by whom she had two sons, Edward H. and Thomas N. 3d, Edward 
Morse, b. Feb. 28, 1828; he d. unm. at the age of 51, Dec. 27,1878. 4th, Daniel Denny, b. 
Oct. 20, 1829; m. Eliza Hardy, and had two ch. He early went to California, where he now 
resides. 5th, Orlando Sartwell, b. Oct. 13, 1831; m. Bertha Held and had one daughter; he d. 
in 1878. 6th, Frederick Henderson, b. Jan. 7, 1834; m. Annie, the widow of his cousin, Henry 
Holland, of St. Louis, where he now resides; no ch. 7th, George B., b. March 17, 1838; lives 
with his mother, unm. 8th, William Ward, went out as a sutler in the army of the rebellion, and 
died there Nov. 12, 1863, aged 23 years.
