He was born Feb. 24,1764. He married Abigail Jones, who was born in Acton, Mass., Dec. 17, 1765, in 1792,when they came to Walpole to live. The old farm is still in the possession of the Hubbard family. He had nine children. I. Daniel, b. Sep. 9, 1793; m. Catharine Griffin, of Alstead, N.H., Aug. 24, 1817; d. at Walpole, Nov. 1, 1839, and left a widow, nine sons and one daughter. Ch. 1st, Leonard Clark, b. Aug. 7, 1818; m. first, Caroline, dau. of John P. Maynard, and had 4 ch.; m. second, Marion Kimball, of Saxtons River, Vt.--no issue. 2d and 3d, William and Willard, b. Sep. 21, 1821; William m. Maria Bennett, of Surrey and had one ch.; Willard, m. Elvira B. Cooke, of Rockingham, Vt,--no issue. 4th, Daniel Woodward, b. May 10, 1823; m. Lizzie Chaffin, of Acton, Mass. 5th, Catherine Elizabeth, b. July 30, 1825; m. Levis Chaffin, of Acton, Mass.-- issue 2 ch. 6th, George, b. Nov. 18, 1827; m. Maria Wright, of Weathersfield, Vt. and has 4 ch. He was the only soldier that went from Walpole into the Mexican war. 7th, Albert, b. May 29,1829; m. Hannah Catherine Livermore, of Alstead, and lives in Gilsum--issue 4 ch. 8th, Levi Flagg, b. Sep. 10,1832; m. first, Hannah Maria Howe, of Brookfield, Vt., 2d, Mary Fenn, of Ludlow, Vt.--issue 2 ch. 9th, Henry Jonathan, b. Oct. 1, 1834; m. Mary Jones, of Rockingham, Vt.--no issue. 10th. Frederick James, b. Aug. 23, 1838; m. Juliette, dau. of Increase S. Guild, Jan. 10,1859, 2 ch. (See Ap.) II. Susan, b. June 1, 1795, m. Ezra Perkins and lived in Rindge, N.H.; she d. leaving no ch. III. Matilda, b. May 22, 1797; m. George Coffin, of Acton, Mass., where they lived for some time after marriage, but subsequently removed to Chester, Vt., where they both died, leaving no issue. IV. Samuel Jones, b. Apr. 30, 1799; m. Clarissa Ann McAllister, of Lempster, N. H., and died suddenly, from injuries received by an accidental fall, on the morning of July 20,1874. Ch. 1st, Celissa E. b. Feb. 7, 1837; m Ashbel Stoddard, of Chesterfield, N.H. 2d, John L., b. Dec. 13,1838; m. Frances A., dau. of David C. and Mary P. (Moore) Thompson. 3d, Oliver J., b. Mar. 17, 1843; m. Serena I. Stoddard. 4th., Mary A., b. Oct. 31, 1845, m. Leroy N. Colburn. 5th, Samuel E., b. Jan. 25, 1849; m. Jennie M. Sanders; resides in Westminster, Vt. V. Eliza, b. June 27, 1801; m. twice, and died in Ludlow, Vt., without issue. VI. Lydia, b. July 6, 1803; m. Peter Hall, of Westminster, Vt., by whom she had four ch. She is now living, a widow, in Missouri. VII. Abigail, b. Aug. 17, 1805; m. Phinehas Underwood, of Putney, Vt., and lived there till her husband died, when she married again and moved to Chester, Vt., where she died leaving no issue. VIII. Levi F., h. March 13, 1808; removed to Michigan and d. there unm. IX. Nathan W., b. Sep. 4, 1810; d. in town unm. The Hubbard family have been characterized for industry, sobriety and frugality; seeking rather to gain an honest livelihood by industry upon the soil than to enter the whirlpool of anxiety and speculation; and, as one of the descendants writes: "so far as I have any knowledge of the Hubbards, no one of the descendants of Levi Hubbard has ever been imprisoned for any crime or even for debt, which I think speaks well for the race."
