Thomas Fessenden’s church, which they joined in 1770. He was born in 1710, and died Oct. 8, 1784; she was born in 1718, and died April 24, 1791. He settled on a plot of land, now known as the Ezra Hall place, which was held by himself and his descendants till the present y ear (1879). James and Lucy had six children, but it is impossible to name them in their order of succession. I. Thomas was the oldest of the three sons belonging to the family of James, and was born Oct. 22, 1751, and died Nov. 27, 1845. He m. Eunice Alexander, b. Sept. 8, 1769, Jan. 25, 1785; she d. Jan. 11, 1857. He first settled on the place now owned by J. W. Taggard, and then on the place owned by William B. Mason, which was the home of the Russells for three- fourths of a century or more. In connection with his farming interests he used to make flaxen ropes and halters during the winter season. His children were as follow: 1st, Thomas, jr., b. Sept. 3, 1785; m. widow Hannah (Flint) Wellington, b. June 11, 1782. He d. March 28, 1872; she d. Jan. 5, 1866. Ch. (1) Amos, b. Sept. 11, 1818; m. (4) Sarah Amanda, b. July 10, 1825; m. James H. Phelps, May 2, 1848,--issue, one daughter and one son. (5) Josiah Quincy, b. Oct.1 9, 1830; m. Luke Fletcher, July 23, 1784. At one time she lived in a little one-story house that stood some fifty rods south of Henry Fletcher’s. She is said to have been intellectually vigorous. She got into some controversy at one time with one Bailey, a Baptist clergyman living in Westmoreland, on some religious points, and wrote a long disquisition, in the form of a dialogue, defending her position, and got Henry Fitch to revise it for publication; but the cost of publication was not within her means, and it never took form in printer’s ink,--a great disappointment to many of her friends. III. Priscilla, m. David Pulsipher, of Rockingham. IV. Lucy, m. John Fletcher, of Westmoreland. V. Aquila, m. Abigail, dau. of William Glazier, and had eight children, which number he deemed not sufficient for a poor man, but adopted two more. He lived at one time where Allen Dunshee now lives, and was for many years sexton for the town. Ch. 1st, Elijah, b. Jan. 18, 1781; m. Sally Griffin, Feb. 23, 1808. 2d, Abner, b. Nov. 20, 1782; d. young. 3d, James, b. Jan. 27, 1785; m. Eliza P. Houghton, March 8, 1807. 4th, Thomas, b. Jan. 27, 1786; m. in Dummerston, Vt. 5th, Lucy Farmer, b. Sept. 3, 1787; m. in Troy, N.Y. 6th, Gideon, b. Sept. 28, 1791; m. Sarah Plant, of Weathersfield, Vt. 7th, Ruth, b. Sept 29,1793; m. Elias Williams, Nov. 21, 1813. 8th, Sarah Glazier, b. April 19, 1799; m. a Thomas, in New York. The family all left town, and not any of the blood of that branch remains. VI. Jeduthan was the second son, and lived on the homestead of his father,--the Ezra Hall place. He was born in 1744: several years before the Russells came to Walpole. He married Hannah, the daughter of William Glazier, one of the early settlers of the town, Nov. 28, 1772, when he was twenty-eight years old. His wife died Sept. 8, 1799, aged 44. Whether he married again or not is unknown. He vas killed at the raising of a barn, which is now standing on the place owned by John W. Taggard, by falling from the plate to the ground, May 13, 1813, aged 69. Ch. 1st, Martha, age unknown; m. a man named Dudley. 2d, Eli, b. March 13, 1775; m. Hepsibah, dau. of Benjamin Floyd, Jan 5, 1803, and lived in Westminster, Vt. She had six ch., two of whom are well known music publishers in Boston. 3d, Lucy, b. April 13, 1777; m. John Graves, of this town. 4th, Lydia, b. Oct. 18, 1779; m. a Kendall. 5th, Hannah, b. Aug. 6, 1782; m. Amos Graves, of this town. 6th, Jeduthan, jr., b. March 14, 1785; m. Rhoda, dau. of David Hall, and was a miller at Saxton’s River. 7th, Joseph, b. July 6, 1787; m. first, Lucy Angier, and second, Harriet Robinson, and went to Nunda, N.Y. Ch. (1) Priscilla, m. Seranus Britton, and had three ch. (2) Charles. (3) William. (4) Sophia. (5) Almira. He had ch. by his second wife. 8th, Priscilla, b. May 13, 1790; m. Ezra Hall, July 19, 1807.
