Two large families by the name of Wyman, at one time lived contemporaneously in this town; but exactly where is not known. The progenitor of one of these families was Uzziah. He was born in Townshend, Mass., May 18, 1764. When he was sixteen years of age, he joined the Revolutionary army, and continued a soldier until the war closed. In 1787 he married Lydia Nutting, and immediately removed to Walpole, and, it is thought, took up a residence somewhere on Carpenter Hill. He had a family of ten children, all of whom were born in Walpole, except the oldest and youngest, the latter being born in 1811, which circumstance would seem to indicate that the family had removed from town about that time. His children were: I. Lydia, b. May 7, 1787, d. 1862. II. Uzziah, jr., b. Apr. 28, 1789, and is still living in Vermont. (1879.) He m. One of his children, Andrew A. is a man of some prominence in business circles at Cambridgeport, Vt., and also possesses some scholarly attainments. Another of his sons was a music teacher of considerable celebrity. He once taught vocal music in Walpole, with good success. He resided in Keene at the time, when, in the prime of manhood, he was stricken with disease, and lived but a few days. He was much respected, and his death was lamented by a numerous acquaintance.
