Certificate of Pension issued on the 16th of Sept. 1819 and sent to Ezra Bartlett, Esq; Haverhill, Grafton Co. N.Hamp. Arrears to 4th of Sept, 1819 - $134.93 Semi-ani. All'ce ending 4th Mar 1820 - $48"00 26/30 $182"93 {Revolutionary Claim,} {Act 18 March, 1818} (Document 2) Private Zebulon Hunt Bedel's N. Hampshire Reg't Service 11 months 9.12 & p.c. 1818 Judge's certificate as to the credibility of the claims and of the needy circumstances of the applicant wanted. (Document 3) State of New Hampshire Grafton, ss, On this ninth day of April 1818, before me the subscriber, on of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the said county, personally appeared Zebulon Hunt aged 58 years, resident of Bath in the said district, who being by me first duly sworn, according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress, entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war:" That he, the said Zebulon Hunt enlisted in February 1776 in the state of New Hampshire in the company commanded by Samuel Young of the "Regiment in the army of the United Colonies raised for the defense of American liberty & for repelling every hostile invasion thereof," commanded by Timothy Bedel; that he continued to serve in said corps, or in the service of the United States until the month of December 1776, when he was discharged in Mount Independence state of Vermont, that he was in the battles of _______________ and that he is in reduced circumstances, and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services. Sworn to and declared before me, the day and year aforesaid. (signed) Ezra Bartlett I, Ezra Bartlett, Judge, & c., as aforesaid, do certify, that it appears to my satisfaction, that the said Zebulon Hunt did serve in the revolutionary war, as stated in the preceding declaration, against the common enemy, for the term of nine months, on the continental establishment; and I now transmit the proceedings and testimony taken and had before me, to the Secretary for the Department of War, pursuant to the directions of the aforementioned act of Congress. Haverhill, June 11th, 1818 (signed) Ezra Bartlett (Document 4) State of New Hampshire, Grafton Ss, On this 12th day of May 1818 before me the subscriber one of the judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the said County, personally appears Joshua Bedel of Bath in said County who on his oath declares that in the year 1776 he belonged to Cap't Samuel Young's Company in Col Timothy Bedel's Regiment as a private, and that Zebulon Hunt of said Bath was a private in said Company & Regiment in the campaign of 1776 in the expedition against Quebec, that when the army retreated from thence the declarant was sick & was left behind, that soon after he recovered his health& joined his regiment & that said Hunt was then with his company & so continued thro' the campaign according to his best knowledge & belief. - (signed) Ezra Bartlett I Ezra Bartlett Judge as aforesaid do certify that it appears to my satisfaction that Zebulon Hunt is in indigent circumstances & stands in need of assistance of his country for support, and that said Hunt's name is entered in the payroll referred to in Joshua Bedel's application, as having enlisted as a private in said company on the 8th day of March 1776. (signed) Ezra Bartlett (Document 5) District of New Hampshire County of Grafton At the Superior Court of Judicature of the State of New Hampshire holden at Haverhill within & for said County of Grafton being a Court of record by the laws of said state on this 27th day of May in the year of our Lord 1820 personally appeared in open court Zebulon Hunt aged sixty years resident of Bath in said county who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the revolutionary war as follows viz' a private soldier in Captain Samuel Young's Company & Colonel Timothy Bedel's Regiment New Hampshire line that his original declaration was mad & dated the 9th day of April 1818 that he has received a pension the certificate of which is numbered 14.218 & I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift or sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled "an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary war" passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income or property except my clothing other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed & by me subscribed as follows viz an adds & shewes one broad ax an jointer & other tools for a cooper else worth less than ten dollars. And I further declare that I am by profession a cooper infirm and unable to perform my business consistently. My children are aged and named as follows viz Nathan Hunt aged 20 years Zilphia Hunt aged 18 years Moses Hunt aged 15 years They are able to support themselves. My wife is aged 57 years feeble & unable to work but little & the children help me support her. I have nothing els bedding is not worth ten dollars & that is Nathans by agreement for debts he has to pay for me out of his own property. Zebulon Hunt Sworn to and declared before the justices of the Superior Court of Judicature for the State of New Hampshire in open court this 27th day of May 1820. Attest S.P. And I do further certify that it is in the opinion of said court that the total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid oath is not more than ten dollars. (Document 7) State of Vermont County of Caledonia On this 23rd Day of April 1838 before me the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace for the said County of Caledonia personally appeared Zebulon Hunt who on his oath declared that he is the same who formerly belonged to the company commanded by Capt Samuel Young in the Regiment commanded by Col Timothy Bedel in the Service of the United States; that his name was placed on the pension Roll of the State of New Hampshire from whence he has lately removed, that he now resides in the State of Vermont where he intends to remain & wishes his pension to be there payable in future - The following are his reasons for removing from the State of New Hampshire to the State of Vermont to wit. He lost his wife last fall, and his daughter resides in Danville Vt and wishes to spend the remainder of his days with her - Witnesses C Carpenter Zebulon Hunt his mark Sworn and Subscribed to before me the day & year aforesaid. Mattocks, Justice Peace I John Vance of Danville in the County of Caledonia of lawful age depose testify today that I am well acquainted with Zebulon Hunt who has subscribed and made oath to the foregoing affidavit and I know him to be the identical person described in said affidavit.
