Elkanah Philips Revolutionary War Pension application. S22934 Massachusetts service August 21, 1832 Elkanah Phillips of Grafton, Grafton County, New Hampshire, seventy-six years of age, deposed: that he enlisted at Dighton,Massachusetts in April or May, 1775 for eight months under Capt. Peter Pitts, Col. Walker, Massachusetts Militia; joined his regiment at Roxbury, where and at Dorchester, Mass., he served out his term; that he was born at Dighton in 1756 and lived there until 1781 when he moved to Grafton, N. H., where he has lived ever since; that during his service he was engaged in building a breastwork across the Neck, including three forts and was constantly exposed to the fire of the enemy, particularly at the time of Bunker Hill Battle. Elkanah Phillips. Rev. Ephraim Crockett of Danbury and Eleazer Martin of Grafton, N. H., certified that it is the general belief in the neighborhood in which Elkanah Phillips lives, that he has been a soldier in the Revolution, in which opinion we concur. Ephm Crockett, Eleazer Martin. August 18, 1832 Richard Whittier of Grafton, N. H., certified to the high moral character of "Deacon Phillips." Richard Whittier. August 18, 1832 William Bowen of Grafton, N. H., seventy-seven years of age, who belonged to the Rhode Island troops in 1775, testified to his belief in the Revolutionary service of Elkanah Phillips who has been a Deacon forty-five years. William Bowen. Same day Eli Hoskins of Grafton, N. H., who has known Elkanah Phillips over forty years, testified to the same effect. Signed by mark. Claim allowed and Certificate 5384, Concord, New Hampshire Agency, was issued February 9, 1833, Act of June 7, 1832. July 15, 1837 Elkanah Phillips of Franklin County, N. Y., applied for a transfer to that state, where he had moved that he might live with his son, Samuel Phillips. Elkanah Phillips. Samuel Phillips of Moira, N. Y., testified to the identity of his father Elkanah Phillips. Transfer made as requested. March 6, 1843 Elkanah Phillips of Grafton County, N. H., applied for a transfer to New Hampshire to which state he had moved "for the purpose of living with his children, his wife having died." Richard Whittier certified to his identity and transfer made, as requested. June 5, 1847 Elkanah Phillips of "Chataque County, N. Y." applied for a transfer from New Hampshire to the Albany Agency, his reason being that for some time he has been living with his sons in law in New Hampshire who refuse to maintain him any longer as his property is entirely exhausted; that he left New Hampshire in September 1846 and has lived with his son, Nathan ever since and calculates to reside there as long as he lives; that he has another son, Aaron Phillips, residing in Chataque County and there is not the remotest possibility of his ever leaving the county. Elkanah Phillips. Nathan Phillips of Carroll, N. Y., fifty-five years of age, testified to his identity, transfer was made, as requested, and pension paid from September 4, 1846 to July 7, 1847, probable date of death.
