H. in the Rebellion' by H. L. Robinson, published 1893 CHARLES E. DENNETT was born in Pittsfield, September 10, 1847. He is a son of Jeremiah W. Dennett. He attended school in town, and worked for various parties until he enlisted. He received the name of "Commodore," from the fact that he was the only man to enter the navy from this town. He entered in the service as a marine, June 16, 1864, and served on board the Sabine, first at Portland, later on the Potomac and James rivers. He discharged his duties as " Captain of the Head," with credit to himself and to the satisfaction of his superior officers. He is now an inmate of the Soldiers' Home at Tilton.
