Draper 1917-1922 It is available at the New Hampshire Historical Society. S14725 New Hampshire Service August 28, 1832 Jabez True of Salisbury, Merrimac County, Massachusetts, seventy-three years of age, deposed: that he enlisted at Salisbury, Mass., in April, 1775 for nine months in the Massachusetts Militia; served under Capt. Jonathon Evans, Lieut. John Morrill, Col. Fry, marched to Cambridge, Mass., where and at Bunker Hill they remained until after the battle; served out his nine months but had no written discharge; that in December 1776 he enlisted at Salisbury, Mass., served under Capt. Benjamin Evans, Col. Pickering, Massachusetts Militia; marched directly to Danbury, Conn. where they were stationed a few days then to White Plains, N. Y., then to Peekskill and then to New Jersey where he served out the time of his enlistment and was dismissed, but had no written discharge; that he enlisted again at Salisbury, Mass., in 1778 for three months under Capt. Norwell; does not recollect the name of the Colonel but he was from Newburyport, Mass., marched to Providence, R. I. where they were stationed and were employed in building a fort; served three months and were then verbally discharged; that he enlisted about July, 1779 at Salisbury, Mass., for three months served out his time under Capt. Huse, Col. Gerrish, Massachusetts troops, at Winter Hill where they were employed in guarding the British Prisoners and at the end of their term were verbally discharged. Jabez True. Rev. Otis Robinson and Moses Greeley, both of Salisbury, N. H., certified that it is the general belief in the neighborhood in which Jabez True lives, that he has been a soldier in the Revolution, in which opinion we concur. Otis Robinson, Moses Greeley. July 27, 1832 John Smith of Salisbury, N. H., testified to service with Jabez True (whom he has known nearly sixty years) for nine months in 1775. John Smith. Claim allowed and Certificate 5513, New Hampshire Agency, was issued February 11, 1833 under Act of June 7, 1832. According to the census of 1840 Jabez True, eighty-two years of age, was living at that time at Salisbury, N. H. (Only Revolutionary Pensioner named Jabez True from any state. BMD)
