H., and Kittery, Me., having offices in both cities, was born in Portsmouth, March 20, 1876, one .of the six children of John D. and Julia (Mackey) Carty, The father, John D. Carty, was a pro- fessor of music and followed that vocation during his entire life. The sub- ject of this sketch in his youth attended the public schools of Portsmouth, and later the New Hampshire Conference Seminary at Tilton, N. H. He was graduated from the Vermont College of Medicine in 1906 and later took a post-graduate course at the Morgan's Memorial Hospital in New York City. He also took a post-graduate course at the Massachusetts State Hospital. He then began the practice of his profession in Kittery and Portsmouth and has since built up a good practice, being widely recognized as an able man, both in medicine and surgery .He is a member of the York County Medical So- ciety of Maine and the Portsmouth Medical Society, the Rockingham County Medical Society, also the New Hampshire State Medical Society and of the American Medical Association. His social affiliations are with the Elks, the Warwick Club, the Portsmouth Athletic Club, and the Portsmouth Country Club. In politics he is independent. Dr. Carty married Miss Mildred Goldsmith, a daughter of Oliver Gold- smith of Portsmouth, N. H;, July 2, 1912. Their family consists of one child, Julia E. Dr. Carty and family are members of the Catholic church. They have a pleasant residence at Kittery Point.
