In Sept. 1776, he held like rank in Col. Thos. Tash's regiment. A year later he fought under Col. Moses Nichols against Burgoyne. From Jan. to Nov. 16, 1778, he was a captain in Lt. Col. Stephen Peabody's regiment, and was major of Col. Hercules Mooney's regiment in 1779. He held various civil offices in Londonderry. He was Lt. Col. of a regiment of six months' men in 1781.
