Rhodes was educated in the common and high schools of Exeter, and at the age of fourteen years began to learn the trade of butcher, receiving at first fifty cents per day. He continued to be thus occupied until he was 25 years old, at which time he gave up the business and returned to the farm in Brentwood, where he has since remained, engaged in agriculture. He is in prosperous circumstances and is regarded as one of the reliable and substantial citizens of the town. He is a democrat in polities and has run for local office on a number of occasions, but as the county is strongly republi- can, has hitherto been unsuccessful. Mr. Rhodes married Miss Mary C. Both were educated in the public schools of Brentwood, Nellie also graduating from Sanborn Seminary.
