He was born August 4, 1859. The place of his birth and the name of his mother are not given in his application. His father was Richard Brown who was a member of the Committee of Safety for Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, durnig the Revolution. Caleb Brown enlisted in Hampton Falls about June 1, 1777, in Captain Joseph Parsons company, Colonel Senter's New Hampshire regiment, and was discharged January 1, 1778. He enlisted again in July, 1778, and served in General Sullivan's Rhode Island Expedition. In the summer of 1779 he went to Massachusetts and enlisted in Captain Lewis Jenkins' Massachusetts company. In April 1780, he enlisted in Captain Robinson's comipany, Colonel George Reid's New Hampshire regiment, and was transferred to Captain Samuel Cherry's company in the same regiment.
