Peter Gapinski EXETER - F. Peter Gapinski, 83, of Sherwood Forest Park, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, following vascular surgery. He was born June 1, 1917, in New York City and had resided in Exeter since 1971. Mr. Gapinski was a U.S. Navy veteran, retiring as a chief petty officer after 23 1/2 years serving mostly on destroyers including the USS Balch and the USS Taylor. He served in the European and Asiatic Theaters during World War II and the Korean War, receiving numerous awards and medals. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, Nashua. Following his retirement he was head of the maintenance department at Boston University Hospital for 17 years. He was a member of Exeter Congregational Church; the Danvers (Mass.) Amnity Lodge since 1964; the Sherwood Forest Tenants Association; and the Exeter Line Dancers. He enjoyed bowling and was an accomplished chef for tenant association events. The widower of Betty Gapinski, his wife of 54 years who died January 7, he is survived by one son, Philip Gapinski of Hammond, La.; one daughter, Gail Gentry of Exeter; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Smith of Long Island, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Exeter Congregational Church with the Rev. Jane Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the charity of one's choice.
