Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur R. and Frances (Montgomery) Gewehr. He was a graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1960, and received his bachelor's degree in English Literature from Norwich University in Vermont. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, stationed in Korea. For over 25 years, he was a self-employed finish carpenter and painting contractor. He recently had been employed for F.A. Gray in Portsmouth and currently for Four Seasons Fence Co. Prior to moving to Portsmouth, he had resided in West Palm Beach, Fla., for over eight years. He enjoyed canoeing, fishing, was an avid reader, and he loved to meet new people and make new friends. Survivors include a daughter, Sume M. Gewehr and son-in-law Sean Caughran of Portsmouth; a son, Aubrey C. Gewehr and daughter-in-law Tammy Gewehr of Santa Maria, Calif.; his former wife and good friend, Teresa Denney, of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Aidan Gewehr Caughran and Ella Gewehr Caughran; a sister, Suzanne Gewehr, of Oakland, Calif.; a brother, Phillip Gewehr, of Concord; and a niece, Emily F. Gewehr, of Boston. Arthur Richard Gewehr PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Arthur Richard Gewehr, 58, of 31 Pearl St., No. 5, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Friday. The Rev. Will Saunders, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church (South Church), officiated. Words of remembrance were given by many close friends. Violinist was Andy Happel.
