Gray, 81, died on December 18, 2000 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital after a brief illness. Born on September 20, 1919 in Canaan, Vt., she was the daughter of John and Alda (Guay) Elliott. Mrs. Gray was a 1939 graduate of Canaan Memorial High School, Canaan, and a 1941 graduate of Lyndon Normal School. She married Gordon Gray on January 8, 1944. Mrs. Gray taught school throughout the North Country for many years, including two years in Thetford, Vt., three years in Pittsburg, and 27 years in Canaan, Vt. She taught for 28 years in Stewartstown, served as the Stewartstown school librarian for 15 of those years, and continued on two more years after she had retired as a teacher. Mrs. Gray was employed for 15 years as a cashier at the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel and was employed for several years at the Norton Drive-in Theatre in Norton, Vt. She was one of the founding board members of Colebrook Home Health. She was active in the Canaan (Vt) Womanıs Club, and was a member of the Metallak Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Gray enjoyed cooking, reading cookbooks, doing crafts, traveling, searching for antiques and going to yard sales. She will be remembered as a caring teacher and a loving mother, who at age 55 took on the responsibility of four foster children. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gordon Gray, of West Stewartstown; two sons, Richard Gray of Red Hook, N.Y. and Donald Gray of Kittery, Me.; a daughter, Patricia Grover of West Stewartstown; a brother, Francis Elliott, of Willimantic, Conn.; and four foster children, Paul Koch of Florida, Johan Koch of Manchester, Kirsten Lyons of Canaan, Vt. and Teresa Pendell of Exeter; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Mahlon, seven brothers, Medie, Eugene, Leo, Ted, Dominic, Romauld, and Jessy, and a sister, Addie. Calling hours were held on Wednesday, December 20 at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Albert Church in West Stewartstown on Thursday, December 21. Interment will be in the spring. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Newman Funeral Home.
