Arlene Whittier-Grienenberger 

SAN DIEGO - Arlene Whittier-Grienenberger, formerly of Portsmouth, died
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at her home in San Diego. 

Born Feb. 6, 1927, in Portsmouth, she is survived by her husband, John 
Grienenberger, whom she married in Portsmouth on June 10, 1951. 

She was a homemaker and a wonderful Navy wife who always wanted to help other
people. 

She is also survived by her children, John Jr. of Scottsville, Ky., Lynn 
Gaughen of Santee, Pamela Oberst of Spring Valley and Joseph of San Diego; a 
sister, Margaret Nutter of Eliot, Maine; brother, Ralph Whittier of 
Bradenton, Fla.; sister, Marion Lehr of Cantonment, Fla.; niece, Evelyn 
Harvey of Largo, Fla.; nephew, Alan Redden of Eliot, Maine; eight 
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

A service was held Friday at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. Donations
may be made to Kaiser Hospice, 10992 San Diego Mission Road, San Diego, CA 
92108, in memory of Arlene Grienenberger. A San Diego contact is John
