She was born Dec. 12, 1904 in Boston, Mass., one of 12 children of the late Joseph and Johanna (O'Brien) Scully. She was raised in South Boston and Dorchester, Mass., and had been a Portsmouth resident for 62 years before moving to Hampton six years ago. She was a graduate of the former Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School of Boston. Mrs. Tomkinson worked as a stenographer for the Bank of Boston for 14 years before her marriage and move to Portsmouth in 1938. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Tomkinson, in 1950 and by her son, Ernest R. "Bonesy" Tomkinson in 1989. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth F. Tomkinson of Portland, Maine, and Michael J. Tomkinson and his wife Tammi of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Lenore "Lenny" Joubert and her husband Ted of Hampton, and Barbara Roberts of Stratham; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Portsmouth. The Rev. John MacKenzie, associate pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton and the Rev. Agapit H. Jean, pastor of St. James Church in Portsmouth were the celebrants. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 275 Pleasant St., Concord, N.H. 03301. Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Tomkinson, 96, a resident of the Seacoast Health Center since 1994 and formerly of Portsmouth, was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, from the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Portsmouth. The Rev. John MacKenzie, associate pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton, and the Rev. Agapit H. Jean, pastor of St. James Church in Portsmouth, were the celebrants. Marion Arnoldy was organist and Mary Leonard was soloist. The readings were offered by Michael Armstrong, Ted Joubert and Kevin Roberts. Words of remembrance were offered by Kenneth Tomkinson and Sr. Doris Ouellette, C.S.C. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth with the Rite of Committal conducted by Father MacKenzie.
