He was born July 29, 1957, in Portsmouth and attended Portsmouth schools. He held a black belt in karate and won All New England in kick boxing at the Northeast Karate Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with various moving companies. He is survived by his mother, Rosa M. Clark; one son, David Clark Jr.; one daughter, Ciara Marie Clark; his best friend and the mother of his children, Anita Mayo; three brothers, Irving Hayward, and his wife, Cathy, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Herbert C. Clark, and his wife, Lorraine, of Chandler, Ariz., and Dennis Clark, and his wife, Robyn, of Portsmouth; two sisters, Priscilla "Pat" Clark, of Corona Hills, Calif., and Emma M. "Dollie" Clark, of Forestville, Md.; several cousins, including Barney Brown Jr., and his wife, Dorothy, of Lewiston, Maine, and Daniel L. Wilson, of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews. CLARK - David Clark, 43, of Portsmouth, died Dec. 18, 2000. Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 263 Peverly Hill Road, Portsmouth, with funeral services following at 12 noon. Memorial donations to benefit David's children may be made to Anita Mayo, 39 Chestnut St., #2, Stoneham, MA 02180. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home. Portsmouth Herald (Dec 28, 2000) David Clark PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for David Clark, 43, of Portsmouth, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Tuesday, with services held at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Hilson, pastor, officiated. Jarvis Williamson gave the obituary reading. Prayer of Consolation was given by Elder Mitchell. Musical selections were given by Sister Lucy Fair and Sister Carrie Coltrane. Reflections were given by many family and friends. In attendance were members of the church. Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Dr. Hilson. The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Clark's son, David Clark Jr. Bearers were David's son, David Clark Jr., Ervin Hayward, Herbie Clark, Dennis Clark, Barney Brown and Kazi Toures.
