Box 39, Colebrook, NH 03576 (603) 237-5501 FORMATTED: by CParziale, 2000 ***************************************************************************** EVA BLAKE Eva Lancaster Morse Blake, 97, died on Friday, November 24, 2000, at the Country Village Center in Lancaster. The daughter of Harry Lancaster, a well known Maine guide, and Addie Poland, she was born in Skowhegan, Maine, and was raised by her father and stepmother, Addie Ripley Lancaster. Her childhood was spent in Magalloway and at age 17, Eva moved to Gorham. She lived there until her marriage to Austin Hall Morse, boss-bricklayer at the Brown Company Mills. After his death in 1952, she married Reginald Lee Blake, who died in 1972. Eva became a legend in her own time. She was the oldest member of the Maine Grange and owned one of the old lumber camps on the Diamond River, where she became known as the ³Queen of the Diamond.² She enjoyed fishing and hunting and threw out the first ball at the Labor Day ballgames on the Diamond River. She is survived by her daughter, Pearl (Mrs. Robert) Morse Dodge, of Frankfort, Mich.; her granddaughter Bobette Dodge and her great-granddaughter Gretchen Dodge Higbee, both of Clinton Township, Mich.; and a niece, Muriel Knowlton, of Skowhegan, Maine. There will be no services, but a celebration of Eva's life will be held at a later date to be determined by the family.
