He was born on Jan. 17, 1911, in Portsmouth, N.H., the son of John Frank and Freda (Kinder) Boston. He was a graduate of Dover High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 1933. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he trained as a professional photographer. He devoted his working life to the Goldenrod in York Beach, first as an employee of F.G. and Irma Wagner and later as a co-owner. He retired as president in 1975 but remained actively involved until 1997. He was a long-time member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church (South Church) in Portsmouth, where he had served on several committees. He was a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees of Ellis Park in York Beach for over 30 years and served many terms as chairman. In addition to serving on several other local boards and committees, he was a member of the York Beach Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion, St. Aspinquid Lodge #198 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Portland, and the Kora Temple Shrine. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Constance (Smart) Boston, of York Beach; two daughters, Alfreda (Boston) Furnas, of Eustis, Fla., and Laurinda J. (Boston) Bridges and her husband, Leslie, of York; one son, Richard Elwyn Boston and his wife, Kathleen, of York; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. BOSTON - Elwyn Richard Boston, of York Beach, died Dec. 8, in York Beach. Memorial service and ritualistic Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Portsmouth, 292 State St., Portsmouth.
