"Brig," as he was known to his family and friends, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from Erazmus High School and completed two years at Pace Business School. He began his career at the age of 18 as a ribbon and carbon salesman for Royal McBee. He retired after 41 years of service as president of Roytype and McBee Binders, both divisions of Litton Industries. During his tenure, he served as president of the Carbon and Ribbon Association from 1966 to 1968. His work involved a great deal of international travel. After his retirement, he became a consultant for international business trade. An enthusiastic tennis player until the age of 76, he held a number of tournament titles from area clubs. He was a voracious reader, especially of Civil War material. He loved classical music and was a gifted, self-taught piano player. As the patriarch of a large family, he was actively involved in "fathering" his children and grandchildren and enjoyed researching his family genealogy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marianne Margaret Ley; three daughters, Marianne Lizotte and her husband, Ray; Elizabeth Vogt and her husband, Roger, all of Simsbury; Alecia Manning and her husband, Frank, of Boston; and a son, Peter Ferris and his wife, Amy, of Rye; and 11 cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Lyman Van Duesen. FERRIS - Edmund Wittenmeyer Ferris, 81, of West Simsbury, Conn., and Vero Beach, Fla., died Dec. 12, 2000. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at Vincent's Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Funeral Mass at noon on Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Catherine's of Siena, 265 Stratton Brook Road, Simsbury.
