Brown, 99, of the Morrison Nursing Home, died there on Wednesday evening Dec. 6, 2000. Mrs. Brown was born a Quaker in Brooks, Me. on Oct. 30, 1901, the daughter of Forest K. and Mabel (Penny) Roberts. She was raised and schooled in Maine, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She went on to graduate from Bangor Business School and was later employed as a stenographer for the State House in Portland. She also worked for a time in Prouts Neck, Me. for the postal system. For 30 years she resided in Carlisle, Mass. where she attended the Carlisle Congregational Church. She later moved to Weare, residing there for 24 years and then Bradford, living there for seven years. In 1995, she took up residence at Morrison Nursing Home. She was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church in Lancaster and a former member of the Eastern Star. She was active with 4-H and the Extension Service. Family members include a son, David Brown of Lancaster; a daughter, Marcia J. St. Clair of Henniker; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Pines Cemetery in Bradford. Services will be announced at a later date.
