Coughlin PORTSMOUTH - Florence A. Coughlin, 98, of 263 Rockland St., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Langdon Place of Dover. Born Oct. 4, 1902, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Hopkins) Coughlin and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed for many years at the former W.T. Grant Department Store and the L.V. Regan Moving Co. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In her retirement, she was tireless volunteer, receiving an award of Volunteer of the Year from Gov. John Sununu in 1986. She volunteered at the Portsmouth Children's Museum for 16 years and was just announced as the first recipient of the Florence Coughlin Outstanding Service Award. Active with the RSVP, she helped for thousands of hours at the Portsmouth Senior Center, Portsmouth Probation Department, Community Council of Senior Citizens, Seacoast Council on Tourism, Odiorne Point Nature Center, Chamber of Commerce, Portsmouth Community Foundation, N.H. Legal Assistance, Area Homemaker-Health Aide, New Franklin School, Portsmouth Visiting Nurses, Salvation Army, School for Lifelong Learning, AARP, Meals on Wheels, and Bingo for Rotary. She is survived by her sister, Alice Coughlin of Portsmouth; nieces Kathleen Kennedy, Jeanne Haley, Louise Caverly, Ann Rutledge and Mary Ann Lambros; nephew Timothy Francois; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Patrick, James and John Coughlin; and four sisters, Ellen Hogan, Mary Rutledge, Dorothy Jacobs and Catherine Kennedy. COUGHLIN - Florence A. Coughlin, 98, of 263 Rockland St., Portsmouth, died Dec. 28, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visiting hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 505 N. Parkway, Stratham, NH 03885-0196. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception by the Rev. Edward Kelley. Lector was Eileen Foley, who also read the poem "Good Night and Good Morning." Organist was Marion Arnoldy. In attendance was a large delegation from the Portsmouth Housing Authority, Senior Center, and RSVP. The Knights of Columbus Auxiliary formed an honor guard at the church. Amy McIntyre of the Children's Museum, made a presentation of the First Annual Florence Coughlin Outstanding Service Award.
