Silver JEFFERSON - Francis L. Silver, 95, of Jefferson, died peacefully at his home with family, on Tuesday evening, Dec. 26, 2000. Mr. Silver was born in Newbury, Vt. on Oct. 1, 1905, the son of Charles L. and Jessie A. (Foster) Silver. In his youth he attended school and the Methodist Church in Plainfield, where he resided with his parents, sisters, Emma and Gladys, and brother, Harry. Francis enjoyed the business world, working as a store clerk until he started his own business, buying and selling furs and honey, which he operated for many years. For a short time during World War II he worked as a machinist at Cone Automatic in Windsor, Vt. On June 19, 1943, he married Philida E. Rogers and moved to New Hampshire where he purchased her family’s farm. He continued in the fur trade and also started a produce farm which marketed to area restaurants and hotels. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Philida of Jefferson; a son, John W. Silver Sr. of Jefferson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. There are no visiting hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
