Hickman PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mr. James H. Hickman, 71, of 1462 Islington St., were held Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Thursday. Monsignor Lawrence Burns, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portsmouth, officiated. An honor guard was formed at Proprietors Cemetery in Portsmouth by a detachment from Hanscom's Air Force Base, under the direction of Capt. Paul Gilbert, including 2nd Lt. Jean Richardson, 1st Lt. Johnnie Dennis, and 1st Lt. Lisa Dow. The American flag that draped the casket was folded by Capt. Gilbert and 2nd Lt. Richardson. Committal services were given by Father Anthony Kloss, pastor of St. Benedict's Abbey Church in Still River, Mass. A volley was fired, under the direction of Capt. Gilbert, including 1st Lt. Dennis and 1st Lt. Dow. Taps was sounded and the American flag was presented to Mr. Hickman's son, Joseph Hickman, by 2nd. Lt. Richardson. American Legion services were held at the funeral home Wednesday evening by the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, including Mike Richard, chaplain; Donald W. Poisson, 1st vice commander; Mary Pento, 2nd vice commander; Carl Walton, past commander; Richard Brooks, adjutant, Post No. 6 color guard; Gene Schmitz, S.A.L. officer; Dick Whitehouse; Arthur Vancour; Smokey Nadeau; Bill Doster; Jeanna Morse, Unit No. 6; and Deb Perkins, Unit No. 6. VFW services were held at the funeral home Wednesday evening by Emerson Hovey Post No. 168, including John McCarthy, post commander; Carl Walton, senior vice commander; John Mercer Jr., vice commander; Mark L. Anthony, chaplain; Paul Cushing, quartermaster; Paul Anania, quartermaster, past commander; Robert M. Seeley, trustee; Joseph Goodwin; Smokey Nadeau; Cathie Chevalier, past president Auxiliary No. 168; and Ruth Menard, past president Auxiliary No. 168. Bearers were James H. Hickman Jr., Joseph Hickman, Ed Taylor, Michael Fuller, Mathew Barnaby and Bruce Noyes. HICKMAN - James H. Hickman, 71, of 1462 Islington St., Portsmouth, died Dec. 4, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel, with American Legion services at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday by Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 and VFW services at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday by Emerson Hovey Post No. 168. Family flowers only.
