Simonds KITTERY, Maine - Richard P. Simonds, 73, of 150 Whipple Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at York Hospital, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Feb. 6, 1927, he was the son of George and Marie (Pauze) Simonds. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He spent many years working construction and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1997. Among his fondest memories were the two years he spent in Alaska employed by the Bureau of Fisheries and time spent with the Tlingit Indians as a cook on their fishing barge. More recently, he enjoyed spending time with his wife discovering his Native American heritage and culture. He also loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Genestreti) Simonds of Kittery; a son, Charles Simonds, and his wife, Carolyn, of Kittery; and a daughter, Cindy Leary of South Berwick; eight beloved grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Boucher of Northglenn, Colo., and Theresa Dietch of Port Orange, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. SIMONDS - Richard P. Simonds, 73, of 150 Whipple Road, Kittery, Maine, died Dec. 12, 2000. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H. Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth. Family flowers only, please.
