Spaulding, 81, of 21 Brookview, died on Friday evening, Dec. 8, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester. Mr. Spaulding was born in Hartland, Me. on Jan. 6, 1919, the son of Clyde and Alice Spaulding. Raised in Maine, he graduated from high school there and went on to serve as a lieutenant in the Army during World War II. He served in the African and European Campaigns and was a POW in Germany. Several months after his capture he managed to escape. Returning to the states he started a lifetime career in the construction business. He worked as a foreman and supervisor in Florida for several years and in the ‘70s moved to Berlin. For 10 years he resided in Jefferson and for the past two years he has been in Groveton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Beagle Club of Berlin and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Family members include a daughter, Betty Knowels of Wolfboro, and very close friends Scott E. and Brenda L. Ashby of Jefferson, along with their children. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva. A visiting hour was on Monday at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral Service was held at the funeral home following the visiting hour. The Rev. John Mazzei, pastor of All Saints Church, officiated.
