Bassett, 72, of 48 Fremont Road, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Parkland Medical Center, Derry, following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Sandown, the son of the late Raymond K. and Priscilla (Knights) Bassett, and had resided at I.H.S., Derry, for the past year. Mr. Bassett was employed by George A. Bassett's Dairy Farm in Fremont, Sandown Central School and the Woodbury Lane Mill, Sandown. He attended St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Sandown, and was a member of the Sandown Civic Association and the Sixty Plus Club of Sandown. He was an avid whist player. He is survived by three sisters, Hazel Marlow and Eleanor Bassett, both of Sandown, and Martha Sargent of Springfield, Va.; 10 brothers, Charles Bassett of Newfields, Raymond Bassett of Boscawen, Donald Bassett of Northwood, Wendell Bassett of Epsom, William Bassett of Hilton Head, S.C., Richard Bassett of Alton, Kenneth Bassett of Sandown, David Bassett of East Hampstead, and Carroll Bassett and Irving Bassett, both of Sandown; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Eva Phillips, and one brother, Robert Bassett. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Peabody Funeral Home, Sandown. Burial was in Center Cemetery, Sandown. Gingras KITTERY, Maine -- Lillian Mary (Gingras) Gingras, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Eliot, Maine, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born June 5, 1913, in Methuen, Mass., the daughter of Alfred and Adelina (Brochu) Gingras and resided in Lawrence, Mass., for many years before moving to Haverhill, Mass. She resided in Plaistow from 1986 until 1989 when she moved to Kittery. She had been a summer resident of the Greenlands at Hampton Beach since 1959. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Lawrence. Mrs. Gingras was primarily a homemaker and assisted her son in his business for many years. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Portsmouth, and a former member of St. Joseph Parish, Haverhill, where she was a soloist for weddings and funerals. She sang for many years in Lawrence churches. She was a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society; the Third Order of Mary; and St. Joseph Parish Choir. The widow of Rudolph P. Gingras, her husband of 43 years who died in 1989, she is survived by one son, Daniel P. Gingras of Kittery, with whom she made her home; one daughter and her husband, Constance and Michael Schofield of Auburn; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Alcide A. Gingras. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in All Saints Church, Haverhill, Mass. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Plaistow. Arrangements were by the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, Haverhill. Mabel Howard EXETER -- Mabel Howard, 86, of Alumni Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Tottenham, England, the daughter of Heinrich (Henry F.) and Daisy I. Spalthoff and resided in Exeter for most of her life. She attended Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter. Mrs. Howard was employed by Unitil. The widow of Donald Howard, she is survived by two grandchildren, Bernard Thon of Washington and Lisa VanDamm of Arizona; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Daisy Chase of Raymond; three nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by one daughter, Donna Mae, and two grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangement are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Marlynn P. Lewis PLAISTOW -- Marlynn P. Lewis, 68, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his home. He was born June 29, 1932, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Malcolm K. and Mary D. (Fyfe) Lewis and had resided in Plaistow for 15 years. He was a 1950 graduate of Haverhill High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of Vermont with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of Delta Psi Fraternity. Mr. Lewis was a chemical engineer with Western Electric Co. of North Andover, Mass., retiring as a senior chemical engineer after 30 years of service from AT&T, now Lucent Technologies. He was a member of the Haverhill Golf and Country Club; a member and past president of the Elmwood Cemetery Trustees; a member of the American Chemical Society; a former member of Haverhill Rotary Club and the Merrimack Valley Investment Club. He enjoyed his summer home in Tuftonboro on Lake Winnipesaukee. He is survived by his wife, Cornelia A. (Johnson) Lewis; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dr. Debra A. Lewis of Rochester, Minn., Susan M. Sullivan of Altona, N.Y., Kathleen M. and Glenn Normile of Narberth, Pa., and Elizabeth J. and Stephen Truchon of Wilton; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Donald P. Lewis of Haverhill and Wallace M. Lewis of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one sister, Priscilla J. Johnson of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Paradis EXETER -- Donald Eugene Paradis, 66, of 277 Water St., died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Lewiston, Maine, the son of the late Leo and Olivette (Poliquin) Paradis. He had resided in Raymond before moving to Exeter five years ago. Mr. Paradis was formerly employed in the building industry in the area and was a shoe cutter for Clicker City, Haverhill, Mass. After his retirement he worked at Market Basket in Portsmouth for four years. He enjoyed building model cars and boats. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Theora "Teddy" (Patterson) Paradis of Exeter; one daughter, Linda Paradis of Biddeford, Maine; two sons, Robert Paradis of Epping and Eugene Paradis of Warren, Maine; nine grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lillian Paradis of Westerly, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in Exeter Cemetery at the convenience of the family. James H. Richards FREMONT -- James H. Richards, 86, of Leavitt Road, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1914, in Woodbury, Tenn., and had resided in Fremont for the past 13 years, coming from Albany, Tenn., and Salem, Mass. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Richards was employed by Eastman Gelatin in Peabody, Mass., for 23 years. He is survived by one son, Steven Richards of Fremont; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. John Barner officiating. Burial was in Leavitt Cemetery, Fremont. Marjorie B. Smith CHESTER -- Marjorie B. Smith, 66, of 704 Fremont Road, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Exeter Hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1934, in Miami, Fla., the daughter of the late Elmer and Isora (Danforth) Fry. She was educated in Florida schools and attended Essex Agricultural School, Danvers, Mass. Mrs. Smith and her husband owned and operated Smitty's Restaurant in Fremont for several years. She had previously worked as a practical nurse. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Clifford B. Smith of Rochester; one son, Danny Goad of Newton; seven daughters, Bettie Dandeneau of Brookfield, Mass., Judy Banner of Lee, Donna Goad of Chester, Terry Lontine of Newton, Sherry Edwards of Chester, Faith Ward of Derry and Bonnie Patti of Rochester; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geraldine Sargent of Chester, Emmy Lemieux of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Kathy Tucker of Salem, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Rodney Fry. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Newton. James A. Sullos EPPING -- James A. Sullos, 82, of 222 Blake Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born July 8, 1918, in Exeter, the son of John and Jennie (Bessey) Sullos and was a lifelong resident of Epping. He attended the School Street School in Exeter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 941st Field Artillery Battalion. Mr. Sullos owned and operated a small dairy farm in Epping for more than 50 years. He was very active up to his illness and enjoyed reading. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Thelma (Fenstermaker) Sullos of Epping; two daughters, Rose M. Masotta of North Reading, Mass., and Vicki I. Silva of Raymond; two sons, James J. Sullos and Philip J. Sullos, both of Epping; two grandchildren; one sister, Martha Bond of Dover; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping, with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating. Military burial was in Prospect Cemetery, Epping. "Bud" Wilson, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in Hale Hospital following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Saugus, Mass., the son of the late Harry and Mary C. (Tobey) Wilson. He had resided in Haverhill for four years, formerly living in Lynn, Mass. The widower of Muriel E. (Kimball) Wilson, who died in 1999, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Gillis of Litchfield; two sons, Robert Wilson of North Carolina and David Wilson of Sandown; five grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and several nieces. Graveside services were held Monday in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, Mass., with the Rev. Steve Murray, pastor of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Sandown, officiating. Arrangements were by the Peabody Funeral Home, Sandown.
