"Joe" Young PORTSMOUTH - Clarence J. "Joe" Young, 65, widower of Theresa D. (Haynes) Young, of 117 Holly Lane, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Aug. 30, 1935, the son of the late Bertha and Richard Young. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1962, as a communications specialist with the rank of sergeant. He worked for the City of Portsmouth from 1965 in the Water Department as a meter reader; he lso as employed in the Sewer Department at the waste water treatment plant, retiring in 1993. He was a member of 1386 AFSME. He was a retired member of the Portsmouth Call Fire Department, with more than 17 years of service, retiring as a captain. He was a former member HHB 31197 FA, serving as radio teletype section chief; a former member of the New Castle Fire Department; a member of the Frank E. Booma Post 6 American Legion; and a former member of Portsmouth Auxiliary Police from 1965-1973. He was active in Boy Scouts of America for many years with Troop 275, and a member of Mic-O-Say BSA. Survivors include three sons, Thomas D. Young and wife Judy of Palmyra, Pa., Joseph H. Young and fiancee Sue of Holly Hill, Fla., and Robert M. Young of Portsmouth; one daughter, Melissa A. Scott and husband John Scott of Orange City, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kassandra L. Young and Todd M. Young both of Portsmouth, Krista A. (Young) Scott, and Nicholas J. Chesley, both of Orange City, Fla. YOUNG - Clarence J. "Joe" Young, 65, of 117 Holly Lane, Portsmouth, died Jan. 22, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours at the Chapel are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, with American Legion services at 5:45 p.m. on Friday by Frank E. Booma Post 6, at the Chapel. Clarence Joseph "Joe" Young PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Clarence Joseph "Joe" Young, 65, of 117 Holly Lane, were held at the J Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Saturday. Retired Salvation Army Major Jack Ryan officiated. In attendance were members of the Portsmouth Fire Department and former associates from the City of Portsmouth Water Department. A fire truck from the Portsmouth Fire Department led the procession past Central Fire Station. The last call was sounded. Bearers were Deputy Fire Chief Steve Achilles and firefighters Ted Blood III, David Bohne, Todd Germain, Brett Nelson and Chris May. American Legion services were held at the Chapel on Friday evening by Frank E. Booma Post #6, conducted by Mary Pento, junior vice commander; Mike Richard, chaplain; Don Poisson, senior vice commander; and Richard Brooks, adjutant.
