Smith PORTSMOUTH - Dean A. Smith, 31, of 159 State St., formerly of Laconia, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 6, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 22, 1969, in Laconia, the son of David A. and Gretchen L. (Gebhardt) Smith. He was a 1988 graduate of Laconia High School and had been a resident of Portsmouth for the past 9 years. At the time of his death, he was employed as a chef at Roxanne's Restaurant in Portsmouth, previously called Karen's. While he was at Karen's, the restaurant was recognized as one of the best two restaurants on the Seacoast by the New York Times. He was also in the process of starting his own catering business, The Front Burner. Besides his work, he had a love for animals of all kinds. He is survived by his father and stepmother, David A. and Diane N. (Norris) Smith of Laconia; two brothers, Christopher D. Smith of Boston and Wayne A. Norris of Laconia; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. SMITH - Dean A. Smith, 31, of 159 State St., Portsmouth, died Jan. 6, 2001. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Ave., Laconia. Services will be held immediately afterward at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. James Waugh officiating.
