Lucas CANAAN, Vt. - Edwina B. Lucas, 99, died on Jan. 11, 2001, at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown after a long illness. Miss Lucas was born on Sept. 26, 1901, in Canaan, the daughter of Jared and Ida (Frizzell) Lucas. She was a graduate of Canaan High School, class of 1920. She attended Bay Path and Springfield College, graduating in 1922. After graduation, she taught high school for several years in White River Junction, Vt. She then moved to Bristol, Conn., and taught commercial business at Eastern High School, retiring in 1965 after 43 years of teaching. During her years in Bristol she summered in Canaan, and in 1922 she moved back to Canaan to live. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Canaan and a member of the Bristol (Conn.) Retired Teachers Association. Family members include several cousins, including William Lord of Pittsburg. There are no calling hours. Funeral services were on Sunday at the Jenkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Dobbs officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Alice Hunt Cemetery, Canaan, Vt. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, in care of Rev. Rodney Dobbs, P.O.
