Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of Lawrence and Emma (Mantz) Donahue. She joined the WACs in 1942 and worked as a telegraph operator in air traffic control in Fort Knox, Ky., where she met and married Lt. John F. Sexton, also serving in the Army Air Corps. Together they lived in various parts of the United States and abroad, France and Okinawa. They had five children. Widowed at 36, she purchased the summer home of her sister-in-law and moved to Rye, where she raised five children. A single mother, she supported the family by working at home for organizations such as Harris Polls, doing political surveys, and selling Avon and the World Book. Active in the Democratic Women's Club, she was also an avid seamstress and had pleasure in making quilts as well as dresses for her daughters. A child of the Depression, she took great pride in returning to school as an adult to complete her high school diploma in her 50s. She is a graduate of Portsmouth High School. She married Alfred Rogers in 1982, who passed away in October 1998. Survivors include her five children: Cindy Sexton Lewis and husband, John, of Durham, Eleanor Sexton of Durham, John Sexton and his wife, Jackie, of Rye, Elaine Sexton of New York, and William Sexton of Rye; five grandchildren, Michael, David and Madeline Sexton Lewis, Anne Sexton and Jennifer Sexton; and her "adopted" daughter, Maureen Baldwin. ROGERS - Eleanor Sexton Rogers, 80, of 56 Cable Road, Rye, died Jan. 22, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach. Visiting hours from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.
