"Des" Bennett LANCASTER - Harry Desmond "Des" Bennett, 90, of Portland Street, died on Monday morning, Jan. 29, 2001, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. Mr. Bennett was born in Lancaster on Sept. 3, 1910, the son of Harry and Persis (Beach) Bennett. A lifetime resident of Lancaster, he was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. For many years he owned and operated Food Town on Main Street in Lancaster. After retiring from his business he went back to work for the Post Office for approximately 10 years. An avid fisherman and snowmobiler, he was a member of several snowmobile clubs including the Methna Snowmobile Club of Jefferson and the Lancaster Sno Drifters. Family members include his wife of 64 years, Violet (Tenney) Bennett of Lancaster, one daughter, Doreen Alcorn of Anna Maria, Fla.; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-grandson. He is predeceased by two sisters Beulah Sayles and Anna Bea Hussey, and one brother, Kermit Bennett. There will be no calling hours at his request. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family this summer at Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
