McMahon GILMAN - Joyce B. McMahon, 72, of Washington Street, died at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, after a long illness. Mrs. McMahon was born in Concord, Vt. on July 19, 1928, the daughter of Frederick and Lila (Nichols) Whitehead. She had lived in Gilman most of her life, where she attended many area schools, including Lyndon Institute, of which she was a graduate. For most of her working life she was employed as a waitress. Many of the restaurants she worked were in Littleton, including the Continental 93, Thompson’s Hotel, and the Topic of the Town Diner. Family members include one daughter, Lorraine Foster of Whitefield; three brothers, George Whitehead of Lunenburg, Donald Whitehead of North Concord, Vt. and Allen Whitehead of Maidstone; five sisters, Hazel Wood of Gilman, Helen Wilson of St. Johnsbury, Sarah Cox of Lyndonville, Minnie White of Groveton, Betty Turgeon of Ten Sleep, Wyoming; and two grandchildren. There are no calling hours. Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
