(Pappas) Soteros of 928 South St., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. Born on April 2, 1917, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late George and Katheryne I. (Roylos) Soteros. He owned and operated John's Neighborhood Store. He also worked for Hannaford Brothers and prior to his retirement in 1980 was employed for the N.H. State Liquor Commission. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, where he served as secretary and was a member of the Church Council. He was also a member of A.H.E.P.A. As one of Portsmouth's greatest generations, his love of family, church, community, work and friendship was his life. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Nicholas J. Soteros and his fiancée, Beverly Rider, of Wells, Maine; and George J. Soteros and his wife, Rowena, of Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Catherine Soteros of Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Toula Goutas of South Yarmouth, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mary Theophilos and Christine Soteros, predeceased him. John George Soteros PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for John George Soteros, 83, of 928 South St., were held from J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Tuesday, with services at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth. Presbyter Angelo Pappas was celebrant. Cantor was Jim Maheras and readings were given by James Geminatas. In attendance were members of the church; representatives from A.H.E.P.A. and the Church Council. Bearers were Nicholas Soteros, George Soteros, James Geminatis, G. Spiro Mouflouze, James Lilakos and Peter Coussoule. Burial will be in Sagamore Cemetery, Portsmouth in the spring. Wake services were held Monday evening at the J.Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel by Fr. Angelo Pappas.
