(Blethen) Smothers of 16 Wilson Road, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was born June 12, 1953, in Allentown, Pa., the son of Walter and Mary (Shea) Smothers. He was a communicant of St. Raphael's Church in Kittery. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, and was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a painter-sandblaster. He was a member of the Painters Union Local 1915. In addition to his wife, survivors include six children, Ariel Smothers of Allentown, Pa., Kimberly Gilpatrick of Kittery Point, Christopher Arsenault of Kittery, Tracy De Moura of Berwick, Shawn Arsenault of Kittery, and Heather Jones of Taunton, Mass.; four grandchildren, Katie and Joshua Gilpatrick of Kittery Point, and Andrew and Kyle De Moura of Berwick; two sisters, MaryBeth Schuster and Rosemary Hartley, both of Allentown; two brothers, Steve Smothers and Bobby Smothers, both of Allentown; and several nieces and nephews. SMOTHERS - Mr. Michael Patrick Smothers, 47, of 16 Wilson Road, Kittery, Maine, died Jan. 20, 2001. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Michael P. Smothers KITTERY - Funeral services for Michael P. Smothers, 47, of 16 Wilson Road, were held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Wednesday. Deacon Claude Spencer of St. Christopher's Church in York officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Joseph Munroe. In attendance were associates from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The American flag was presented to his widow, Claire A.
