Shallow NORTH STRATFORD - Richard R. Shallow, 51, died on January 1, 2001 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, after a sudden illness. Born on March 27, 1949 in Stewartstown, he was the son of Clyde and Catherine (Hakey) Shallow. He was a 1967 graduate of Colebrook Academy. Mr. Shallow married Aline Marier on Sept. 2, 1972. After high school Mr. Shallow joined the Army, where he served eight years, including two tours in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Army he was employed by the Groveton Paper Mill, where he was working as a shift supervisor at the time of his death. Mr. Shallow was a member of the North Stratford Volunteer Fire Department and the North Stratford VFW. He was a former selectman for the town of North Stratford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and mechanics. He will be remembered as an excellent handyman and a loving family man. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Aline Shallow; two sons, Brent R. Shallow and Ryan Shallow, both of North Stratford; a daughter, Jenni R. Hakey of North Stratford; a brother, Phillip Shallow of Pittsburg; a sister, Mildred Colby of Bloomfield, Vt.; and two grandchildren. Mr. Shallow was predeceased by a brother, David Shallow, in 1997. Calling hours will be held today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, Colebrook. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at St. Brendan’s Church in Colebrook.
