Cavaness NEWINGTON - Adeline J. Cavaness, 87, of 170 River Road, Newington, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at St. Ann Home, Dover. She was the widow of James A. Cavaness, who died in 1989. She was born in Portsmouth, July 15, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Angelina (Romano) Cavaretta. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1931. She worked at Margeson's Furniture Store, Newburys, and in the supply department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Portsmouth Emblem Club, Sons of Italy, and AARP. She is survived by son, Joseph A. Cavaness of Riverdale, Ga.; two daughters, Gayle J. Dorsey and her husband, Larry, of Dover, and Sharon E. Hood and her husband, Bob, of Huron, N.Y.; four sisters, Grace Cavaretta and Thomasina Kendall, both of Rye, Mildred Went of Fairfax, Va., and Olympia Bankston of Deltona, Fla.; two brothers, Henry Cavaretta and Michael Cavaretta, both of Rye; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. CAVANESS - Adeline J. Cavaness, 87, of Newington, died Feb. 9, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. Burial in Newington Cemetery.
