Conway Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Andrew J. "Andy" Conway Jr., 76, husband of Priscilla J. (MacDonald) Conway, of 3205 Lafayette Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at his home. He was born in Scranton, Pa., on July 29, 1925, the son of the late Claire and Andrew Conway Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years, working as accounts maintenance clerk (1st class), before retiring with a service-connected disability in 1954. He graduated from McIntosh College in Dover in 1959. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard supply department for approximately 13 years before retiring in 1978. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree), Portsmouth; and a member of the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 American Legion, Portsmouth. Besides his wife of 50 years, survivors include one daughter, Patricia Haywood Nutt and her husband, Gordon, of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; one granddaughter, Ami Haywood of Cape Coral, Fla.; one grandson, Ryan Haywood of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; three sisters, Claire Schmitt of Fairfax Station, Va.; Jean Lee of Odenton, Md.; and Rosemary Condolon of Gambrells, Md.; three brothers, Gerald Conway of Leesburg, Fla.; Thomas Conway of Scranton, Pa.; and James Conway of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Paul, John, Lawrence and Leo. CONWAY - Andrew J. "Andy" Conway Jr., 76, of 3205 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, died Feb. 2, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andrew's memory may be made to Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mr. Andrew J. "Andy" Conway of 3205 Lafayette Road were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, Thursday, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. James Church, Portsmouth. Father Gary Lord was celebrant. A reading was given by Tom Conway. Lector was Thomas Ahearn. Altar servers were Richard Ward, Jane Milette and Theresa Hickey. Jean Goss was organist and vocalist was Janet Green. Gifts were presented by Barbara Jean Conway and Jean Conway. Eucharist ministers were Donna Hayes and Rose Condolon. Words of remembrance were given by Donna Hayes from a letter written by Patricia Haywood Nutt. In attendance were members of the church and representatives from the Knights of Columbus. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Father Lord. An honor guard was formed at the cemetery by representatives from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard including 1N1 Audrey Langley and PH3 Tim Reynolds. The American flag that draped the casket was folded by 1N1 Audrey Langley and PH3 Tim Reynolds and presented to Mr. Conway's widow, Priscilla J. (MacDonald) Conway.
