He was the husband of Margery (Sargent) Langley. Born on Sept. 7, 1916, in Hampton Beach, he was the son of the late Edmund and Mildred A. (Holbrook) Langley and attended Hampton Academy in Hampton and Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He became a first lieutenant after completing Officers School and was in charge of air/sea rescue in the West Indies from 1943 to 1945, at which time he received a commendation from the commanding general. After his military service, he attended Boston University for three years in hotel administration and went on to real estate school and appraisers school, graduating in 1971 from Realtors Institute, GRI. He owned and operated Langley Motors in Newburyport, Mass., from 1945 to 1950, then built and operated Yankee Village Motel in Hampton from 1950 to 1960. From 1960 to 1966 he managed the 100-room Meadowbrook Motor Inn in Portsmouth, and from 1959 to 1964 he owned and operated DeJay's Gifts & Casual Wear. He started in the real estate business in 1966, becoming a real estate broker and operating his own realty office until his retirement. During his years in New Hampshire, he was chairman of the Recreation and Tourist Committee of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce and was a former vice president of the New Hampshire Hotel Association, director of the New Hampshire Motel Association and director of the Portsmouth Yacht Club, where he served as chairman of its building committee. He was a member of the Massachusetts Board of Realtors, serving as state director in 1973; a member of the Essex North Board of Realtors, serving as its treasurer from 1968 to 1970; a member and director of the Amesbury Rotary Club, the Newburyport Rotary Club and the Portsmouth Rotary Club; a director of the Amesbury Co-operative Bank; a director, and fund chairman from 1971 to 1973, of the Amesbury YMCA; a member of the Amesbury Industrial Foundation, the Amesbury Planning Board and the Amesbury Historical Commission; and a director of the Bartlett Museum and the Bartlett Cemetery. Politically, he had been Republican Finance Chairman of Amesbury for eight years as well as Republican Town Chairman for eight years. Additionally, he was a member of Warren Lodge, A.F.&A.M., of Amesbury; Bektash Temple Shrine of Concord; and the Massachusetts Consistory in Boston. He co-authored a book with Holly J. Blake in March 1999 titled "Tahiti Bound," which depicts his voyage from Gloucester to Tahiti from 1938 to 1939. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald J. Langley Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., Glen F. Langley of Freeport, Maine, and Christian T. Wyman of Amesbury; seven grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth W. Langley of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Meredith Ann Wyman, who died in 1966; his brother, Edmund Langley; and his sister, Irene Teague. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Hampton, Winnicunnett Road, Hampton, followed by interment in Bartlett Cemetery, Amesbury. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury. Warren Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Kindly omit flowers.
