Munier Ph.D. EXETER - Dr. John H. Munier, 92, of RiverWoods, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001. He was born June 19, 1908, in San Diego, Calif., the son of William and Lesley (Hammond) Munier. He had resided in Painted Post, N.Y., before moving to Exeter. He was a 1927 graduate of Hollywood High School, received his bachelor's degree in physics from UCLA in 1934 and was granted a doctorate in physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1940. Dr. Munier retired from Corning Glass Works in 1973 after 55 years of service. He was recruited in 1939 to work on product development. He was in the vanguard of research scientists who helped move Corning into the high tech world of specialized glass. After managing the Bradford plant in Pennsylvania during the war years, he returned to the Corning research laboratories in 1947 and was named to a variety of company management positions. He loved classical music and enjoyed playing the piano for several hours every day. The widower of Marguerite (Boss) Munier, his wife of 49 years who died in 1986, he is survived by two sons and their wives, John H. Jr. and Dorothy Munier of Derry and William B. and Ann Munier of Wellesley Hills, Mass.; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at RiverWoods, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
