Rudolph MELROSE, Mass. - Louis C. "Rudy" Rudolph, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood. He was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Plymouth, Mass., the son of the late Jacob A. and Emily (Campbell) Rudolph and had resided in Melrose for 49 years. He attended Shenandoah College in West Virginia and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University where he was a member of the baseball, football and track teams. Mr. Rudolph taught physical education and shop at the Coolidge School, Melrose, for 31 years, from 1945 until 1976, where he coached football, baseball, basketball and hockey. He was active in recreational sports and coached several hockey teams. He was a member of the Massachusetts Referee Association and officiated high school football games throughout the state. He served on the board of directors of the Minuteman Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mount Hood Golf Course. Mr. Rudolph was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, Melrose. The widower of Laura (Richmond) Rudolph, he is survived by two sons, William. L. Rudolph of Plymouth and Richard C. Keating of Melrose; one daughter, Nancy R. Keating of Stratham; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frederica Johnson of Kingston, Mass., and Louise Bolster and Annie DiMestico, both of Canton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and Albert Rudolph. Funeral services were held Monday in First Congregational Church, Melrose. Burial was in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Seaside Elderly Day Out Center, 441 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.
