Box 39, Colebrook, NH 03576 (603) 237-5501 (issue-Feb 7, 2001 ) FORMATTED: by CParziale, Feb 2001 ***************************************************************************** MYRTLE ROOT Myrtle Annie Peterson Root, 101, of Auburn, Maine, and formerly of Beverly, Mass., died on February 5, 2001 at Clover Healthcare in Auburn after a long period of declining health. She was born in Colebrook, the daughter of Frederick A. Peterson of Granby, Denmark, and Maude A. Wright Peterson of Montreal, Canada. She was graduated from Colebrook Academy in 1916 and Bates College in 1920. In 1932 she was married to Frank Elwood Root, who died in 1988. Mrs. Root taught high school college preparatory mathematics classes in Colebrook, Beverly, Manchester, and Danvers, Mass., and retired in 1961. She enjoyed mountain climbing, travelling, crocheting, cooking, and working crossword puzzles. Mrs. Root was an active citizen in Beverly. She was director of the Beverly Improvement Society, Vice-President and then President of the Hospital Aid Association, Chairman of Membership and Treasurer of the Women's Republican Club, a driver for the Red Cross Motor Corps, and an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Anne Nielson of Sun City, Ariz., and Gail Peterson York of Windham, Maine; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Olive Stone and Fredericka Maude Mason, and a brother, Louis Frederick Peterson. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be in the Colebrook Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel.
