Stevens GROVETON - Melba M. Stevens, 92, died on Feb. 12, 2001 at Alice Peck Day Extended Care Unit in Lebanon where she has been a resident for the past three years. Born in Groveton on July 19, 1908, the daughter of Sumner T. and E. Mable (Farwell) Martin, she was a resident of the Upper Valley area for most of her life. She was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1929. She was of the Christian Science faith. Before retiring, she was a taxi driver for Bill’s Taxi in Hanover. She was an avid crocheter, making Afghans for her family members. She loved gardening in her flower gardens and loved reading. Mrs. Stevens is survived by her three daughters, Marian Conrad of Florida and Vermont, and Margaret Howard and Laura Tucker, both of Enfield; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1990; a daughter, Sarah Ausbrook; one granddaughter, Marion Jette, and a sister, E. Sybil Renner. At her request there will no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Stark Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Melba’s name to the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Unit, 125 Mascoma Street, Lebanon, NH 03766.
