Lemay CANAAN, Vt. - Norman F.G. Lemay died on Feb. 20, 2001, in the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. Born in Fitchburg, Mass., on March 10, 1922, he was the son of Simeon and Marion (Marchand) Lemay. He attended school in Lowell, Mass. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. During the war he served as an armed guard and gunner on a Merchant Marine vessel. While in the military Mr. Lemay started cutting hair, a profession he would continue for 55 years. In 1947, he married Hilda M. Gaudet. The couple lived in Lowell and Lawrence, Mass., where Mr. Lemay worked in local barbershops. In 1968, he purchased a barbershop from Felix Lachance in Canaan, where he would cut hair until his recent retirement. In addition to running the barbershop he sold Christmas trees for many years. He also worked at the Ethan Allen furniture factory in Beecher Falls, Vt. and served as the custodian for Canaan schools for a time. Mr. Lemay was a member of Post 47, The American Legion, Canaan; the Barbers Association of Lawrence, Mass.; and the Lake Wallace Association. He enjoyed woodworking, swimming, boating, water skiing, and bowling. Family members include his wife of 53 years, Hilda M. Lemay; three sons, Donald Lemay of East Hampstead, Russell Lemay of Raymond, and Leonard Lemay of Norton, Vt.; four daughters, Norma Jubinville of Bushkill, Pa., Barbara Lemay of Raymond, Susan Stanley of Londonderry, and Beth Kenney of Stewartstown; 21 grandchildren, and a sister, Yvonne Arlequeeuw of Lawrence, Mass. The funeral was held in Assumption Church, Canaan, Vt. Memorial donations may be made to Coös County Nursing Hospital, in care of Sue Collins, P.O.
