Lyons Sr. BENNINGTON - Richard Alden Lyons Sr., 75, of Dodge Hill Road, died on Feb. 23, 2001, at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough. He was born in Canaan, Vt., Sept. 14, 1925, the son of Fred Alden and Lena Julie (Batchelder) Lyons. He attended school in Claremont and came to Bennington to live in 1954. He owned and operated the Lyons Logging Business, active throughout New England for 47 years. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bennington. He was a champion weight lifter and enjoyed that sport for many years. He and his wife last fall went on a two month trip through the Canadian Rockies, the Pacific Northwest, and to Alaska. The family includes his wife, Ardelle (Wolfe) Lyons of Bennington; five sons, Richard A. Lyons Jr., Raymond F. Lyons, Reginald J. Lyons, and Randall M. Lyons, all of Bennington, and Ronald A. Lyons of Seaside Park, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A private Mass of Christian burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bennington, later in the spring.
