Smith WALDEN, Vt.- Ardelle Beatrice Smith, 83, of Walden, Vt., died on Sunday evening, March 11, 2001, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville She was born on July 20, 1917, in East Fairfield, Vt., the daughter of Arthur B. and Luna (Wright) Marcher. She attended Fairfield public schools. On Oct. 20, 1937, she married Leslie Vernon Smith in Lincoln, Vt. On May 1, 1950, she and her family moved to Walden and lived in the tenement over the railroad station for about three yaers. Together with her husband, they build their present home from materials salvaged from that torn-down railroad station. They moved in on Dec. 7, 1953. Ardelle was a very good cook. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends who would stop by her home, traveling to Colorado and Missouri to visit with her chidren and grandchildren, reading, and she was an avid Red Sox fan. Survivors include eight children, Robert of Hardwick, Vt., Martha Alexander of Waterville, Vt., Ralph of Cortez, Colo., Linda Maberry of Eldorado Springs, Mo., Vaughn of East Ryegate, Vt., Douglas of Timmonsville, S.C., Gary of Cabot, and Kevin of Whitefield; 28 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1990, and a son, Harold, in 1955. A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice, P.O.
