He was born on August 15, 1936 in Pittsburg, the son of the late Tom and Evelyn (Haynes) Dorman Sr. Mr. Dorman was employed as a sawmill supervisor until March 11, 1999, retiring from the Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen, Inc. after 45 years of dedicated service. In September of 1954, Mr. Dorman began his career with Ethan Allen, working in the Pack and Ship area until 1969 when he was transferred to the Maintenance Department. For eight years he worked on Machine Maintenance, with two of those years in the Knife Grinding Room. He was promoted to Supervisor of the Yard and Sawmill on the night shift in 1978 and continued as night Supervisor of the Sawmill until his retirement. Mr. Dorman enjoyed snowmobiling as a member of the Columbia Bungy Beavers and the Colebrook Ski-Bees. He also enjoyed his involvement with the bowling leagues at Waynešs Lanes in Canaan. Mr. Dorman will be remembered for his kindness by always being willing to lend a helping hand if someone needed a railing for their steps, a light installed, or to provide a ride to the doctoršs office. He was happiest with a hammer in his hand and he enjoyed working with his son, Alan, after his retirement. He also enjoyed traveling, but was always pleased to return home to the North Woods. Mr. Dorman was affiliated with Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilla (Cass) Dorman of Stewartstown; a son, Alan Dorman of Pittsburg; two daughters, Lynn Rancloes of West Stewartstown and Leis Dobson of Bennett, Colo.; a brother, Tom Dorman Jr. of Pittsburg; two sisters, Gloria Bunnell of Canaan and Betsy Little of Lisbon; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Dorman was preceded in death by his daughter, Jonie Dorman, in 1956, a brother, Benjamin Dorman, and a sister, Nella Dorman Laughton. Calling hours were held on Monday, March 19 at the Jenkins Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan, with the Reverend Rodney Dobbs officiating. Interment services will be conducted in the spring at the Alice Hunt Cemetery in Canaan. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Two Rivers Cancer Fund, c/o Rosemary Mulliken at the First Colebrook Bank, Main Street, Colebrook, NH 03576. The Two Rivers Cancer Fund benefits local people suffering from cancer or cancer-related illness.
