Spaulding GROVETON - Shirley F. Spaulding, 87, of 7 Church St., died on March 2, 2001, at his residence after a long illness. Born Dec. 16, 1913 in Groveton, he was the son of Frank and Margaret (Costain) Spaulding. He was a lifelong resident of Groveton and a graduate of Groveton High School. Mr. Spaulding was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II. Before retiring, he worked as a paper maker for Diamond International. He was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17, Groveton. Mr. Spaulding enjoyed fishing and having breakfast with friends at the former McKenzie’s Diner until he was unable to make the walk there from his home. His wife, Daphne, died on April 26, 1991. He leaves his caretaker of 11 years, Melvina Weagle of Groveton. The funeral was held on Monday at Groveton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Davis, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Northumberland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
